Trainee’s Perspectives on Eating Disorder Training Delivered via Videoconference
Matthew Kelson & Leah Brennan
This study examines mental health professionals’ views on videoconference-delivered training for evidence-based eating disorder interventions. Using a qualitative research design (SRQR), six participants from diverse healthcare settings were recruited through research networks and social media. Semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis revealed both benefits - cost-effectiveness, accessibility, time efficiency, and global collaboration - and challenges, including reduced interpersonal interaction, screen fatigue, and technical difficulties.
Findings contribute to optimising videoconference training, improving its acceptability and accessibility while addressing barriers to engagement. This research informs strategies to enhance clinician education and expand access to evidence-based treatments for individuals with eating disorders in Australia.
